There have been numerous changes in laws and norms surrounding the issue of Homosexuality. But people’s acceptance of the same isn’t consistent and remains divided by country, economy and even RELIGION!
#MakeOverMonday’s W29 dataset talks about the acceptance of homosexuality based on religion. Based on research by PewResearch, the acceptance of homosexuality by people who perceive religion to be important is lesser than that of people who perceive religion to be less important (Hover over the country in each graph for more insights).
Though the above statistic varies in each country, “Nones”, who identify themselves as atheist, agnostic or nothing in particular, are more supportive of homosexuality. There is also a difference of opinion (in acceptance) in groups of a particular religion. For example, Catholics are more accepting of people who are gay than Protestants and evangelicals. Jews in Israel are much more likely to say that homosexuality is acceptable than Israeli Muslims.
The difference in the number of people who say religion is not important to that of people who say religion is important is the largest in the Czech Republic and the smallest in Mexico as seen from the report.
