In this week’s #MakeOverMonday challenge, we see that 35% of newcomers aren’t able to land entry-level jobs. Why? Because ‘entry-level’ jobs today demand experience. Not so entry-level now, is it?
LinkedIn surveyed entry-level roles from December 2017 to August 2021 and found almost 10.1 million entry-level positions. 60% of the entry-level jobs in the Software and IT Industry demand experience. Half of the jobs in the Manufacturing industry demand experience. If these “entry-level” jobs demand experience, how is it an entry-level job, in the first place?
Across that 45-month span, employers asked for at least three years of relevant work experience on 35% of their postings. That rate dipped briefly to 30% in June 2020, when labor markets were in freefall. It’s higher now, though, at 38.4%. It is about time now that the companies demand no experience for entry-level positions. What do you think?
