Pay Gap between Male and Female teachers in State-Funded Schools in England

Pay gap between male and female workers has been existent for centuries and the trend is continuing even today, no matter which country in the world it is. As the level of the job increases, the pay gap also increases.

Week 37 of the #MakeOverMonday challenge talks about the pay-gap between men and women in state-funded schools in England. Despite an increase in salary for female teachers every year, the level doesn’t seem to match with that of the Male teachers. The salary of female teachers increased by 10.96% from the academic year 2010-11 to 2019-20, whereas the salary of male teachers increased by 2.03% in the same period.

Head Teachers earn the most, averaging well over 72000 pounds per year. In 2019, the average FTE salary for all teachers in state-funded schools was 40,537 pounds per annum – an increase of 1000 pounds compared to 2018. The average salary that a Male Leadership teacher gets is 3574 pounds more than that of a Female Leadership Teacher. The difference is STAGGERING! I can only hope that the pay gap decreases in the coming years (sooner the better) and both genders receive the pay that they truly deserve.
