Remote Work – A Boon or a Bane?

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began, companies all over the world have asked their employees to work remotely. While a major chunk of the companies already had these policies beforehand, a few companies were forced to take this route. Like with every phenomenon, there are always two sides.

W32 of the #MakeOverMonday Challenge talks about the benefits and struggles of working remotely. The US Census Bureau surveyed over 3500 people and observed a variety of benefits and struggles of employees working remotely. A whopping 98% of people would like to have the option to work remotely for the rest of their careers.

Working with a flexible schedule was the top benefit of working remotely for employees. Working with sweatpants and without much pressure from your manager along with the ability to work anytime during the day contribute to the above factor. It was followed by working from any location and not having to commute to the office for work.

While the ability to work anytime during the day offers a flexible schedule, most employees find it tough to unplug themselves post work. It can mainly be due to the disorganization of the working schedule compared to the fixed office hours while working in offices. Lack of meeting and working with teammates, face-to-face has also contributed to loneliness which is ranked second. Communication and (or) Collaboration takes the third place in the struggles faced, with 17% of employees voting for it.
