Scotland’s IT Industry

The Information Technology industry has been a pivotal force in each and every country in the world. The European continent has caught the eyes of many IT companies, with many firms branching out to different parts of the world. The United Kingdom has seen an increase in number of IT firms in the last few years, and Scotland is slowly becoming its hub.

W33 of #MakeOverMonday talks about the number of IT companies in Scotland. There are 1,863 companies in 11 regions. As seen from the report below, Midlothian, housing Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh is in the lead with 603 companies. Glasgow and Aberdeenshire house 498 and 227 IT firms respectively.

Midlothian and Glasgow account for 59% of the IT companies in Scotland. The latter is the most famous city in the country and the former borders the capital. The population in Midlothian might also be a factor alongside the location, as there is more space for IT firms. The Highlands and Islands along with the Scottish Borders contribute only 10% of the total IT companies.

Fun Facts: Almost 60% of the IT firms in Scotland have less than five employees and Games are the main focus of the IT companies in Scotland!
