UK COVID Vaccination Coverage by Age and Ethnicity

This week’s #MakeOverMonday challenge focuses on the number of vaccination doses administered in the United Kingdom sorted by age and ethnicity. Vaccination drives began in late 2020 and this dataset comprises doses administered, in the said groups, from December 8, 2020, to June 24, 2021.

As seen from the visualization below, people from the White ethnicity are vaccinated the most, and they were also vaccinated way faster than people from other ethnicities. The dotted line shows the date on which at least 50% of the people were vaccinated.

Vaccination rates were high in the first few months but since then, the rates have slowed. It is alarming to see that 50% of people of White Ethnicity were vaccinated by February 16, 2021, whereas the same percentage of Black people were vaccinated only on March 19, 2021. South Asian people were probably given priority after White people as almost 85.5% of people had been vaccinated.

Is this a casual case of racism in a country where their own athletes are racially abused? I hope it is NOT!
