Which Schools Create the Most Student Loans?

Hi. I am back, after quite some time. The last few months were daunting, but let’s not get into that. This week’s #MakeOverMonday challenge focuses on the number of student loans disbursed and the amount of the student loans, and number of student loans originated and the amount of the student loans originated.

The data focuses on loans for the academic year 2020-21. Despite the global hit, caused by the pandemic, the schools in the USA saw billions of dollars in loan disbursements. Students at Arizona State University took out the most loans of any school in the country for the 2020-21 academic year ($568M). Here is the Data Viz – hover over the map and click on the state to view the details.

The majority of the student loans came from public universities. 70% of the states have a public school listed as the highest originator of student loans. Many public universities top $200M, such as Penn State, Rutgers, and Michigan. But that’s not to say private-nonprofit universities aren’t driving student loan originations to astronomical levels as well.
